The Black Shadow

Okay, here it is. Please post a comment to let me know what you think.

Chapter 1
The flight was exhausting so I laid my head back on the headrest. I closed my eyes and let my mind wander about the new adventure I would be embarking on. I was moving to a new town on the other side of the country and I would only know one person there. I felt a slight breeze blow along my side. I figured it was the flight attendant walking by, but as I opened my eyes, I saw no one in the aisle. I readjusted my legs and arms, trying to get more comfortable. The jet lag seemed to be kicking in.
As my eyelids slid shut again, I began to drift away from my surroundings. Something seemed to be tugging on my hair. Probably a child, but I didn’t remember a child sitting in any of the seats closest to me. My eyes jolted open. No one was near me. Trying to readjust myself yet again, my spine started to tingle. Was someone watching me? I turned in all directions. Everyone else seemed to reading, watching the movie or sleeping. It was just my nerves, I told myself. Moving to a city where you knew no one could do that to you.
I walked to the back of the plane to use the restroom. I splashed some water on my face, trying to wake myself up. I looked at my reflection in the mirror. There were dark circles under my eyes and my hair was somewhat ruffled. I was trying to straighten out the knots in my mangy mane when I saw movement behind me in the mirror. I spun my head around. Nothing. I turned back towards the mirror.
“You keep acting this way and you won’t make any new friends in Ridgeley,” I told myself. Great, now I was talking to myself. I shook my head and turned to open the door to go back to my seat. The latch seemed to be stuck. I tried jiggling it. It still wouldn’t open. Something tugged on my hair again. I spun around. As I did, I saw my own reflection in the mirror and jumped. Talk about being on edge. Maybe I should have a drink to settle my nerves.
I caught a glimpse of something else in the mirror as well. A black spot on the door. I hadn’t noticed that before. I blinked to see if I could make my vision any clearer. That didn’t help. It only made it worse. Now there were two red dots on the black spot. As I leaned toward the mirror, something grabbed my hair again. Only this time it was no gentle tug as before. It felt like someone had taken a fist full of hair and was yanking me backwards.
The black spot on the wall was not a spot at all. It was a shadow with red glowing eyes. It came closer to my ear. “How long I have waited for this.” The stench coming from the foul thing was excruciating. I had to keep swallowing so that the bile rising in my throat would stay down. And that voice. It was the sound of grinding rocks together. Like it hadn’t had anything to drink in one hundred years. The fear kept me from screaming out. It finally released its hold on my hair and I scrambled to reach the door handle. Had to get out. Had to get out now.
I swung the door open, almost hitting myself with it, and ran back to my seat. Sweat trickled down the nape of my neck and along my temples. Looking back towards the bathroom, I saw nothing. No one. I really needed that drink. I ordered the stiffest drink available. It burned on the way down, but I started to warm up a little. I just need some sleep, that’s all. I tried to tell myself. There was no way I would be able to sleep on this plane. Not after what just happened.
But what did happen? It had to have been my imagination. Right?
